New Scholarships


University of Winnipeg Entrance Scholarship -  Students who are wanting to attend the University of Winnipeg and wish to be considered for the Fall/Winter 2014-15 Entrance Scholarships and financial assistance, must fill out a separate Application Form which is found on the University of Winnipeg website by following the link: “Fall/Winter Entrance Scholarship Application Form”.  These forms have to be submitted by December 2, 2013.  In addition, students must have applied to the University of Winnipeg by December 2, 2013. United Way Youth Leaders in Action Scholarship will present Four awards of $500 each in 2014.  Awards will be given to graduating Grade 12 students who meet the following criteria:
·       Academic potential – Students must attend a post-secondary institution in Winnipeg during the 2014-2015 academic year and are able to demonstrate a commitment to their education.
·       Demonstrated leadership – students must have challenged themselves in order to influence others on issues that are important to them.
·       Connection with a United Way-funded organization – students must have volunteered or worked with a United Way agency partner/.  To view, visit  http://unitedwaywinnipeg.ca/all_agencies.html
·       Financial need – recipients who demonstrate a need for financial support will be made a priority.

Winnipeg North Rotary Club Scholarship Program – These post-secondary entrance scholarships are open to students who are graduating from high school and will pursue university or college within Canada in the fall of 2014. In addition candidate’s high academic achievements and contribution to their school and their community through their involvement in extracurricular activities.  Deadline Date is March 31, 2014.

Job Yellowhead Memorial Education Fund – This scholarship is open to all Aboriginal Canadian students who are graduating and plan to attend university in September 2014. 
Additional criteria:
1)     Resident of Manitoba
2)     Falls into one of the following categories: status Indian, non-status Indian, Metis, or Inuit.
3)     Does have Financial need
4)     Deadline Date is January 31, 2014

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Terry Fox Humanitarian Award valued up to $7,000 per year is open to graduating secondary who will be attending a Canadian post-secondary institution to begin a degree or diploma program in September 2014.  Award recipients must also meet the following criteria: Involvement in voluntary humanitarian work.  Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. Mr. Abdo El-Tassi Bridge Builders Award  valued at $500 is open to all Grade 12 graduating students, pursuing post-secondary education in September 2014, and who demonstrate  significant contribution towards improving relations between cultural groups in Canada.   Accomplishments that will be considered are numerous  i.e. civic engagement and/or volunteering experience, essays, film or video production, etc.  Deadline date to hand in application and all materials to Mrs. Costa is  Friday, May 9, 2014.   For more information, see Mrs. Costa.   
 
The Odenza Marketing Group Spring Scholarship - $500 - 1 Award (Deadline: March 30, 2014 is available to students who will be pursuing post-secondary education in the fall on 2014 and who have an average of 2.5% or higher.   There are essay questions that students must respond.  Learn more about this scholarship -  Google: Odenza Marketing Group Scholarship and follow their link, or see Mrs. Costa. 
 
TD Scholarships for Community Leadership – is available to graduating students who plan to pursue post-secondary education in September 2014, and who have shown exceptional initiative in making a meaningful and lasting difference in their community.  While applicants must have good academic grades,” the Key criterion is outstanding community leadership, in balance with the student’s academic performance.” Application Deadline is December 6, 2013.  Applications can be downloaded or apply online at: www.td.com/scholarship or see Mrs. Costa.

University of Winnipeg important info


 
Here are some things that the students should prepare before the application session on Nov 6. I have provided some links to our website, where they can access more detailed information if needed.
  • Have they met admission requirements?
  • What major do they want to pursue? Do they have the required high school pre-requisite courses for the major they wish to pursue?
  • A list of the Grade 12 courses and grades (final or expected) they have either already completed or are currently taking. This is required to self-report their grades
  • Have a list of any other high schools or institutions they attended – name of school, month and year they started, and month year they ended
  • Have their Manitoba Education Number (MET) ready. They will need this to complete the application.

Scholarships Information



The Schulich Leader Scholarships requires a nominee.  It is an undergraduate entrance scholarship valued at $750.00 for students intending to enroll in one of  the following Programs: STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS).
If you have a student who will be graduating in June 2014 and who plans to attend the University of Manitoba or a university outside of the Province and who MEETS AT LEAST TWO OF THE THREE CRITERIA:  1) Academic Excellence, 2) Outstanding Community, Business or Entrepreneurial  Leadership, 3) Financial Need,
and you would like to nominate your student for the Schulich Leader Scholarship please e-mail me with the name of the student and why you believe this student would be an excellent recipient of the Schulich Leader Scholarship.
 

The University of Manitoba presents the LEADER OF TOMORROW SCHOLARSHIPS and will be offered to students who:
1)     have achieved a high school average of at least 90% calculated from their Grade 11 subjects, on the basis of English 30S, Pre-Calculus 30S, and any three of Chemistry 30S, Physics 30S, Biology 30S, History 30S and French 30S;
2)     have demonstrated evidence of leadership qualities;
3)     have demonstrated evidence of a high level of communication skills;
4)     have a record of community involvement within the school and the community
5)     have demonstrated to be well rounded students (e.g., artistic, athletic, linguistic skills, literary accomplishments);
6)     have  completed a University of Manitoba application for admission by December 1, 2013.
Deadline date for the Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship is December 2, 2013.
